We tested the Maeving RM1S: an electric motorcycle with neo-retro design and excellent finishes

Electric motorcycles are still not the norm in Mexico. Among the purists of the combustion engine who only swear by the roar of an engine and the still limited offer, it is difficult to make a decision. But the Maeving RM1S could change the game. Of British origin, with a vintage design that evokes the golden years of motorcycling, it certainly grabs attention. So, how does it perform on the road? We tested it and will tell you everything.

A design that evokes British style

Upon laying eyes on the RM1S, you soon realize it fully embraces the neo-retro style. Inspired by the legendary Triumph Bonneville, it boasts a refined look with a round headlight, a leather seat with a quilted design, and optional carbon fenders. There is no cheap plastic here; quality materials are used, including the brushed aluminum that adorns the battery. And surprisingly, it is “Made in Great Britain,” a rarity in a market dominated by Asian productions.

With its large wheels with 17-inch spokes and mirrors at the end of the handlebars, it makes a statement. Sure, the mirrors are not the most practical for navigating traffic, but they sure are elegant! In terms of size, the machine measures 2.15 m in length and has a seat height of 785 mm. A comfortable riding position, although at my height of 1.82 m, I found the “fake tank” was a bit too far back.

Simple but effective technology

You don’t need a state-of-the-art TFT screen with CarPlay or Android Auto on this RM1S. Here, a classic analog gauge displays the speed in km/h. A small screen at the bottom right indicates battery charge, time, and the activated riding mode (Riding, Sport, Economy). Simple and efficient, with no excesses.

A true bonus: if you don’t opt for the second battery (which is housed under the fake tank), you have a lockable storage space of 10 liters, with a USB-C port to charge your phone. Quite convenient, don’t you think?

And on the road, how does it feel?

In terms of performance, it has an electric motor that delivers 7 kW (approximately 9.5 horsepower). It doesn’t compete with a sportbike, but for city and short routes, it is more than sufficient. The response is immediate, thanks to the absence of a clutch and transmission. A true pleasure, especially in Sport mode where the power is noticeable.

In terms of range, Maeving advertises approximately 128 km with a single battery and up to 250 km with the dual battery. For daily use, it is more than enough. The charging time is reasonable: approximately 4 hours on a household outlet. There is no ultra-fast charging here, but for an urban bike, it’s fine.

Why you should take an interest in it

Electric motorcycles still struggle to convince, but the Maeving RM1S has solid arguments:

✔️ A spectacular vintage look
✔️ High-quality British manufacturing
✔️ An adequate range for a motorcycle of this type
✔️ A more accessible price than its premium competitors

Of course, it is not a machine for racing on tracks, but for cruising in style and silence, it is a true pleasure.
