The Toyota Yaris hybrid moves up a range

The Toyota Yaris has not only expanded its interior equipment but also includes a beefier hybrid version with 130 HP, which joins the 116 HP version. Suspense over its price…

Hold onto your hats, the Toyota Yaris is already revisiting the fourth generation from 2020! Oh, it’s not exactly a facelift, as its exterior style remains unchanged. However, the small Japanese car receives some improvements inside, such as a completely digital instrument cluster (7 or 12.3 inches, depending on the version) and a new touchscreen in the central console (9 or 10.5 inches, depending on the version). Its multimedia system is “faster and more powerful, with additional features,” according to the official press release.

The digital instrument cluster and the large 10.5-inch screen are new.
We can admire the digital instrument cluster and the beautiful 10.5-inch screen, a novelty.

There is also an important update under the hood with the introduction of the Hybrid 130 version, which, as you might have guessed, develops 130 HP, in addition to the 116 HP of the conventional hybrid version (still in the catalog). This power increase is due to a more efficient electric motor and also boosts the maximum torque, which rises from 141 to 185 Nm. As a result, the 0-100 km/h time is half a second faster, at 9.2 seconds compared to 9.7 seconds for the Yaris Hybrid 116. It’s true that this isn’t mind-blowing, but fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are only slightly higher (96 g/km of CO2 instead of 92 g/km).

Externally, it is not a true facelift.

An Boost for Driving Aids

The Yaris also receives a boost in its active safety systems. Thanks in part to a new camera and a more powerful radar, its pre-collision system has been improved, as well as the adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. Additionally, it offers new emergency aids, especially when stationary, with a system that detects vehicles when opening the door. However, Toyota remains tight-lipped about the price of this optimized Yaris. For reference, current prices start at 23,950 euros.
