In the fight against air pollution, Low Emission Zones (LEZ) have become a clear tool to restrict the circulation of highly polluting vehicles and encourage the use of cleaner means of transport and vehicles. Starting December 11, 2023, these zones will be present in 43 French cities, limiting nearly 48% of the cars currently circulating in them.
Owners of old vehicles face economic and mobility problems
- Restriction on freedom of movement: The need to own a vehicle with the Crit’Air 1 label becomes essential to access these areas, whether in large metropolises like Paris, Lyon, or Nice.
- Lack of economic resources: According to the association “40 million drivers”, around 36% of owners of vehicles prohibited in the LEZ do not have the necessary economic resources to acquire a new or more recent vehicle.
Help for old vehicles: collaboration between “40 million drivers” and Greenolis
To advocate for the rights of motorists facing this limitation, the association “40 million drivers” has partnered with the startup Greenolis. Together they are promoting a hybrid solution called conversion to LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). The goal is to allow old vehicles to easily obtain the Crit’Air 1 label and grant them access to the LEZ, while still offering economic advantages and environmental benefits.
Cleaner and more accessible vehicles through LPG conversion
After the LPG conversion process, even the oldest and most polluting vehicles can proudly obtain the Crit’Air 1 badge, allowing them to circulate freely in any LEZ zone. This solution is particularly interesting for those diesel vehicle owners at risk of losing their right to drive in a LEZ who do not have the financial means to acquire a more recent car.
- Initial cost of conversion: Starting from 3000 euros, users will be able to adapt their cars to make them more environmentally friendly.
- Long-term economic savings: In addition to being able to drive in the LEZ, the conversion to LPG also offers significant savings on fuel consumption and vehicle maintenance.
Additional benefits of LPG conversion
The use of LPG brings other advantages. On one hand, it reduces fine particulate emissions from diesel by up to 85%, and on the other hand, it decreases the noise of engines powered by this gas.
A respite for millions of affected drivers
The collaboration between “40 million drivers” and Greenolis may be the answer many motorists have been seeking in response to the implementation of the LEZ in France. With the possibility of converting to LPG, they won’t have to part with their older vehicles or worry about their financial capacity to obtain a new, less polluting car.
Improving air quality without leaving drivers behind
The initiative demonstrates that it is possible to seek solutions that protect the environment and improve air quality while ensuring mobility and respecting the economy of citizens. The conversion to LPG of more polluting diesel vehicles will not only give them a new life but will also contribute to a more sustainable and cleaner transport system in French cities.
