The LiveWire family is growing! The legendary motorcycle brand Harley-Davidson is launching a new model in its fully electric range. After the S2 Del Mar, the S2 Mulholland, and the LiveWire One, the LiveWire S2 Alpinista arrives. A bold combination of sportiness and comfort for the road, all wrapped in a sleek design. If you’re a rider curious about what this electric bike has to offer, let me share my first impressions after a quick test under the Parisian rain.
A striking look: between sport and tradition
The LiveWire S2 Alpinista does not go unnoticed, and for good reason: it incorporates aesthetic elements from its predecessors while adding a new touch. On one hand, it has the appearance of the S2 Del Mar with its elegant curves and faux tank, and on the other, it takes the round headlight from the cruiser Mulholland, giving it a very fitting neo-retro style. We could say it perfectly mixes the modern with a vintage touch, all in a clean and streamlined silhouette.
But that’s not all! The Alpinista also has a practical side that recalls a touring bike, with accessories such as side bags and a top case, ideal for those dreaming of road trips. And with reasonably sized dimensions, it is accessible, even for beginner riders.
A comfortable and dynamic ride
Let’s move on to the important part: the ride! The S2 Alpinista, with its 84 horsepower engine and 263 Nm of torque, is a true performance beast. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 160 km/h. The surprising thing is the smoothness of the acceleration, precise and responsive, perfect for urban maneuvers as well as for enjoying winding roads.
I must admit that this bike pleasantly surprised me. Even on a wet road under the Parisian rain, it remained stable and enjoyable to ride. The “rain” mode gave me confidence, and despite the cobblestones, the ride comfort remains excellent. The focus on road performance is noticeably more pronounced than in other models of the range, and that’s excellent! You really feel the difference, especially with the 17-inch tires, which offer better comfort on rough roads.
Range and charging: what you need to know
Ah, the range… A crucial topic when we talk about electric bikes. The LiveWire S2 Alpinista features a 10.5 kWh battery, allowing it to achieve approximately 194 km in urban mode. However, this distance drops to 144 km in mixed use and 115 km on the highway, which is somewhat limited if you plan to embark on long trips. In summary, when you press the throttle, the range decreases quickly. For charging, it offers several options: from 0 to 80% in around 1h20 with a public charging station, but consider a little over 8 hours if you plug it into a home socket.
As you can see, the LiveWire S2 Alpinista is more suited for short to medium trips, but it’s not yet ready for multi-day road trips, unless you plan to charge at each stop!
The price: it’s not low, but the quality is there
Regarding the price, this bike is not cheap: it starts at €18,990, a bit less than the S2 Del Mar. It falls within the range of premium electric bikes, but the price is justified by the manufacturing quality and the technologies incorporated. Additionally, LiveWire already offers accessories such as bags and a top case, perfect for customizing your bike according to your preferences. If you are looking for a machine that combines comfort, performance, and ecology, this bike has everything to delight you.
