Introduced by the brand in 2019 after an online user suggested Dog Mode, this feature is an independent function created by Tesla. It is designed to help safeguard our pets when parked in the vehicle.
In response to a user query
“Would you consider a pet mode for the Model 3? In which the music would continue playing and the cooling system would work with a message saying ‘I’m fine, My owner will be back soon’ on the screen?” Initiated by a Twitter user in October 2018, it seems that the idea has won Elon Musk’s heart. Elon did not take long to respond affirmatively.
After a few months of study, the famous “dog mode” made its debut in February 2019 within a remote update intended for that brand’s models. It also served to introduce Tesla’s unfortunately well-known Sentry Mode.
What is Dog Mode for?
It is a simple way for pet owners to allow their pets to stay in their car without fear of negative environmental effects, especially in warm climates.
Each year, thousands of pets die after staying too long locked in their owner’s vehicles. So this Tesla innovation is proving useful, although it does not exempt owners from their responsibilities toward their pets.
If you do not have pets, Dog Mode can be used for other purposes. For example, it can be used to keep the air conditioning running to cool food when you are away from home.
How does Dog Mode work?
When the Tesla is parked with the handbrake in the P position, you can activate Dog Mode directly from the main screen. You can then control its operation and the temperature inside the cabin in real time through the manufacturer’s mobile app.
Once activated, Dog Mode will maintain the cabin temperature at a specific level while displaying its operation on the car’s main screen to notify you that your pet does not need to be rescued.
Essential: to activate Dog Mode, the vehicle’s battery must have at least 20% charge. When the mode is activated, if the battery charge falls below 10%, the cooling system immediately stops, and the app notifies the user. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the mobile phone and ensure you can quickly return to the vehicle in case of a malfunction.
