India challenges Japan: Hero MotoCorp bursts into the French market

We live in exciting times for motorcyclists. With the rise of electric bikes, new environmental regulations, and the arrival of international brands, surprises keep coming. In 2025, a new manufacturer is about to shake up the U.S. market: Hero MotoCorp. This Indian giant in motorcycles, a leader in its local market, will expand its operations to the United States thanks to GD USA. Is this good news or just a passing fad? Let’s find out.

India, the new motorcycle giant

If you didn’t know, India is now the largest global market for motorcycles. Japan is no longer the undisputed king; everything is happening in India now. Among the dominant manufacturers, Hero MotoCorp stands out as a true giant. This company specializes in utility bikes and small displacement vehicles, which are accessible and extremely economical in fuel. In recent years, they have started aiming higher with more sporty models and a presence in rally raids. Currently, they aspire to take a step forward and conquer the U.S. market.

A well-thought-out strategy

Hero MotoCorp will not venture alone. The collaboration will be led by GD USA, which currently handles the importation of CF Moto and Zontes. What’s the goal? To introduce the brand, test the market, and offer a range of products that meet the expectations of American motorcyclists. The first models promise to be appealing:

  • Mavrick X440: a roadster with an attractive neo-retro style based on the Harley-Davidson X440.
  • Extreme 125 R: a dynamic small displacement bike that could strongly compete with models already present in the market.
  • XPulse 210: a versatile trail bike reminiscent of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, though it may lack a bit of displacement for our roads.

An alternative to Chinese brands?

In recent years, we have seen an explosion of Chinese brands in the U.S. market. CF Moto, Zontes, Voge… all these brands have secured their place by offering well-equipped motorcycles at competitive prices. Hero MotoCorp arrives in a market where Asian manufacturers are already well established.

However, what could set Hero apart is its experience in rally raid and its ability to produce proven and economical machines. The Indians know how to build robust and easy-to-maintain bikes, an advantage that could attract American motorcyclists.

An electric offering in the making?

Hero MotoCorp is not limited to combustion engines. For some time now, the brand has been developing an electric range under the name of Vida. In India, these electric scooters are seeing a growing success, and it wouldn’t be surprising for Hero to explore the U.S. market if the opportunity arises. With the increase of low emission zones (LEZ) and restrictions on internal combustion engines, electricity could be a strategic point for Hero.
