The electric motorcycle represents the future of two wheels, but who would have thought that a trail, a very “roots” and robust genre, could adopt this technology? With the Can-Am Origin 11 kW, we have a machine that does not resemble a simple electric motorcycle at all. But, is it really for us motorcyclists? Let’s take a closer look.
A motorcycle for beginners?
If you were expecting an electric motorcycle that would make you sweat from the very first moment, you are mistaken. The Can-Am Origin 11 kW is the electric motorcycle that could transform a novice into an off-road expert in the blink of an eye. And that is exactly what made the difference on the small roads of the Côte d’Azur: this machine is incredibly easy to handle. There are no terrifying feelings or unpleasant surprises, just fun, even for the less experienced. In summary, this machine is the SUV of motorcycles, but in a completely electric version.
Performance and sensations
So, does this motorcycle deliver or not? If you thought that electric would be less exciting, let me tell you that you are mistaken. The Origin reaches 100 km/h in just over 4 seconds. And while it may not be a record, believe me, it’s more than enough to have a lot of fun. As for comfort, the Origin is impressive. On the road, its suspensions and lean angle are so well thought out that even sudden braking won’t make you lose control. The machine is stable, reassuring, and above all, super pleasant to ride, with a very smooth ride.
Off-road, this is where the Origin reveals its true personality. The instant torque, although surprising at first, is actually perfect for tackling rocky paths. Yes, even when rolling over stones, potholes, or sand, this motorcycle responds. The back end may skid due to the action of the throttle, but it quickly returns to the correct position. And all of this, without the slightest noise from the engine, just the sound of the tires gripping and the rocks clashing.
Range and charging: the small disappointment
Of course, not everything is perfect. The range of the Origin may seem a bit disappointing. In the city, you can expect around 145 km, but in mixed conditions, we drop to about 80-90 km, which is not exactly a lot for a trail that would make you want to explore further places. The big drawback is that the charging is somewhat slow. Plan for about an hour to recharge the battery from 20% to 80%.
Can-Am has designed a trail with a pretty cool geometry, which looks a lot like the Pulse (the brand’s roadster), but with some tweaks that make it a true all-terrain machine. For instance, the ground clearance has been increased to better handle road bumps. With its 21-inch wheels in the front and 18-inch wheels in the back, the Origin is ready for anything. The goal is to take you anywhere, even where you would feel hesitant with a traditional motorcycle.
The technological aspect: Apple CarPlay on a motorcycle
Yes, you read that right. We are talking about the possibility of connecting your phone and enjoying Apple CarPlay directly on the motorcycle’s dashboard. It’s convenient for following navigation or checking information without having to take out your phone. The touchscreen is quite large and easy to read, and the controls, although compact, are accessible, even with gloves. Frankly, it’s a small extra that makes a difference, especially for those who like to stay connected during their rides.
